Why is socioeconomic status so important for health, happiness, and achievement? The answer involves the brain

Description: It might not surprise you to learn that people born into wealthier households are more likely to flourish, physically and mentally, than people born into households of more limited means.  But do you know why this is?  Social scientists and neuroscientists are beginning to uncover some of the factors responsible for this, including psychological stress and childhood experience, which differ across social class and impact the brain.  We will discuss the evidence used in this research, its implications for improving people’s life chances, and whether it is a double-edged sword, blaming the victim.

Date and Time: Monday, April 14 from 4:00-5:15 PM
