Mind Wars: Brain Science and the Military in the 21st Century

The Neuropolicy Affinity Group invites you to join the kick off of the spring season!  Dr. Jonathan Moreno, a Professor of Medical Ethics and Health Policy, of History and Sociology of Science, and of Philosophy at the University of Pennsylvania, will be discussing the intersection of ethics, neuroscience, and national security, in a talk titled: “Mind Wars: Brain Science and the Military in the 21st Century.”  The American Journal of Bioethics has called him “the most interesting bioethicist of our time.”

Bio: Jonathan D. Moreno, Ph.D. is an elected member of the National Academy of Medicine and is the U.S. member of the UNESCO International Bioethics Committee.  A Senior Fellow at the Center for American Progress in Washington, D.C., Moreno has served as an adviser to many governmental and non-governmental organizations, including three presidential commissions, the Department of Defense, the Department of Homeland Security, the Department of Health and Human Services, the Centers for Disease Control, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.  In 2008-09 he served as a member of President Barack Obama’s transition team.

Moreno frequently contributes to such publications as The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal,The Huffington Post, Psychology Today, and Nature and often appears on broadcast and online media.  His work has been cited by Al Gore and was used in the development of the screenplay for “The Bourne Legacy.”
